University of Queensland International PhD Scholarship in Structural Biology of TIR Domain-Containing Proteins Australia
If you are planning on putting your research skills into practice and gain new ones, then you should apply for the PhD Scholarship in Structural biology of TIR Domain-Containing Proteins that is offered by the University of Queensland.
The bursary is open to all outstanding foreign and domestic students who want to pursue the PhD degree program at the university for the academic year 2021/2022.
About University of Queensland
University of Queensland was established in 1909. The University of Queensland is Australia’s fifth-oldest public research university. It is dedicated to offering high-quality research-based education and a conducive learning environment.
Why study at the University of Queensland?
You need to study at the University of Queensland because the university provides comprehensive support services and orientation programs to ensure that you have the best possible university experience. You will obtain practical experience, information, and abilities that will prepare you to exceed your career expectations.
Supervisor – Professor Bostjan Kobe
The successful candidate will be working under the direct supervision of Prof Bostjan Kobe as part of the project that aims to understand the mechanisms of action of proteins containing TIR (Toll/interleukin-1 receptor) domains. The successful candidate will be involved in using recombinant protein expression and purification, structural biology techniques such as X-ray crystallography and cryo-electron microscopy, enzymatic assays and protein interaction analysis approaches. During the course of the PhD, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to attend (inter)national conferences to present their research. The candidate will start the project in 2021.
A working knowledge of relevant techniques, such as molecular cloning, protein expression and purification, protein characterization and protein crystallization would be of benefit to someone working on this project.
The School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences (SCMB) combines the disciplines of Chemistry, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Parasitology into a single academic unit. The common thread in our discipline mix is the capacity of molecular-based approaches to create understanding and underpin Discovery. The school has modern research laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment and research infrastructure. The school includes over 50 academic staff, who are widely published internationally and have extensive research backgrounds.
